S.M.A.R.T. Goals


Goal 1: Crop Yield & Quality

  • Specific: Produce at least 20 lbs of marketable cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes combined by the end of the season.

  • Measurable: Weekly harvest logs (lb/week per crop).

  • Achievable: Based on 18" spacing and trellis system yields.

  • Relevant: Maximizes productivity per 30×40 ft plot.

  • Time-bound: First harvest expected by Oct 15, with continuous yield through Nov.

Goal 2: Agroecological & Environmental Sustainability

  • Specific: Implement at least 3 agroecological practices (cover crops, pollinator strip, intercropping).

  • Measurable: Visual record and pollinator counts logged twice monthly.

  • Achievable: All practices fit within plot design and material budget.

  • Relevant: Improves soil health, biodiversity, and sustainability.

  • Time-bound: Practices established by Sept 22 and maintained through semester.

Goal 3: Marketing & Economic Viability

  • Specific: Develop at least 2 marketing strategies (blog + recipe cards).

  • Measurable: Minimum of 6 blog posts with photos; 2 recipe cards distributed.

  • Achievable: Students create content alongside farm work.

  • Relevant: Connects crop production with consumer outreach.

  • Time-bound: First blog post by Sept 15; new post every 2 weeks.

Goal 4: Social & Community Consideration

  • Specific: Host one farm tour and produce a 5-minute educational video.

  • Measurable: Video script/storyboard approved by Nov 15; tour during last week of class.

  • Achievable: Fits within final deliverables.

  • Relevant: Builds communication and teamwork skills.

  • Time-bound: Tour and video delivered by Dec 5.

Goal 5: Nutritious Value of Yield

  • Specific: 70% of yield should be highly nutrient dense crops.

  • Measurable: Weekly evaluation of nutrient content of upcoming potential yield.

  • Achievable: Sustains health living and well-being.

  • Relevant: Connects consumer with food; garden-to-plate.

  • Time-bound: Evaluate every harvest.
